Poka, 18 December 2017. Under the spotlight of the Christmas Theme of Immanuel “God Be With Us”, the sub-theme of “Christmas affirms God’s eternal participation for us to always work and serve with love to bring peace to the earth” at the Pattimura University (UNPATTI) Auditorium. This year’s Christmas celebration is open with the appearance of Joan Saimima, a student from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Unpatti who performing songs titled “Amazing Grace” and Holy Night. The performance warmed the celebration atmosphere.
Pastor Mrs. Ella Effendy, M.Th. from Bethesda Poka Church preached a Christmas message in the event. Through her preaching, Pastor Mrs. Effendy mentions that as Christians we need to bring a Christmas peace, means that we always bring peace of Christmas in our lives, in our work, and bring peace to others to feel the peace of christmas which we are with us. It is also conveyed that with the theme of this year’s Christmas, it has meaning in all our activities there is always God’s intervention with us, and God never leaves those who always remember and give thanks to God.
On that occasion, Rector of Unpatti, Prof. Dr. M.J. Saptenno also delivered his speech. In addition, the Rector also said Christmas not only in December or on December 25 only but the Christmas is every day in all our activities. Further, He said that with the theme of Christmas, God be with Us, means we always perform our tasks well and full of responsibility, in the form of lecturers in teaching and students in learning. It is hoped that for next year the lecturers are required to take English language courses and students must also have a TOEFL score as a requirement as a graduated student of UNPATTI.
On this occasion, Rector also expressed his appreciation for the achievements earned by the Hotumese Choir which is currently ranked 6th position in International level, this is a pride for Pattimura University. He hopes that the this year Christmas theme can also be a provision to welcome the new service in 2018. The award was also presented to two lecturers who active in research, writing and publication in Scopus indexed international journals. The awards were presented to Dr. Gino Limmon and Dr. Hendry Elim.
Present at this Christmas celebration are the Deans of the nine faculties, and the heads of units of the University of Pattimura, some elders, former Rector and academicians and educational staff, part-time staff and campus security staff.
