Students of a university are potential candidates to become agents of changes in the development of their countries. In this context, these students are needed to keep on innovating in order to create changes that can bring advantages to community. Therefore, in order to improve the ability of students in their creativity thinking, Universitas Pattimura through the Students Affairs had carried out a training for the purpose of Students Creativity Program – Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa. The aim of the training is to increase the capability of students in writing proposal draft, also to open better communication between students and lecturers. This will help students to think beyond theoretical things in their class. The training program was carried out on 23 – 24 March 2015. The speakers for the training were Dr. Toetik Koesbardiati who has competency in social sector skills and Dr. Eduardus Bimo Aksonoh who has competency in field of Science and Technology.
The program was started on 10:00 AM WIT. It was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Students Affairs, Drs. Adriani Bandjar, M.Sc. In His opening speech, Mr. Bandjar stated “The training for student’s proposal writing and the training for creativity improvement are efforts to improve the thinking process of students”. Furthermore, he hoped that by participating in the training, students would be helped in facing writing process, especially in thesis writing and other scientific publications in the future.
He also added that the quality of an higher education institution can be measured by a factor which is its performance in providing good quality academic writings by students and lecturers. The researches by lecturers are not limited only in laboratory but must be published and optimized through writings in the form of qualified scientific articles. He stated also that lecturer and students are endorsed to carried out researches together.
In closing his speech, Mr. Bandjar stated “writing is an important skill, more writing can be done only by doing more reading, therefore he advices that students and lecturers should visit library regularly (Humas Unpatti).
